Hi
I Have a sql server standard edition running on win2k server sp3.
1g Ram on the server.
The sever records plant data in an idustrial appilcation every minute.
After a week of use i have noticed that in the task manager view the memory consuption has increased yet when looking at the performance monitor total server memory is equal to target server memory. Is this correct as the memory settings are set to limit the sql server to 511meg as the sql process is greater than this.
Surely when sql reaches its limit is should release memory back to the system. Is this a memeory leak? or normal .
After another couple of days the sql server crashes and the only way out is a reboot
Can anyone help please very frustrating as the

If SQL Server were crashing, you should raise a case with Microsoft Product
Support so the crash can be diagnosed and remedied.

Memory Settings

If SQL Server were crashing, you should raise a case with Microsoft Product
Support so the crash can be diagnosed and remedied.

we have one server with 1 GB of RAM and 500 MB is
pagefile.
Sever is not dedicated to SQL Server since there is also
Microsoft transaction server running and IIS4.
SQL Server connsumes aproximatelly 980 MB and mts alone
around 20 MB.
Thant means that mts has to go to the pagefile.
SQL Server is configured to dinamically adjust the amount
of memory used based upon demand.
Should I configure it to use fixed amount of memory or
that's bad idea ?
This is production server.

If SQL Server can take some benefits of getting more memory from the OS it
allocates more memory while the paging is tolerable.
In general this algorithm is efficient finding the correct amount of memory
to be allocated. If you think this amount is bigger than you wish it is
reasonable to limit the SQL Server's memory. Just take in mind that the
amount of memory allocated by the SQL Server is not arbitrary.

pagefile.
Sever is not dedicated to SQL Server since there is also
Microsoft transaction server running and IIS4.
SQL Server connsumes aproximatelly 980 MB and mts alone
around 20 MB.
